Our sincere congratulations to Dr. John Wood!

Dr. John Wood, President of John Wood Ministries, Inc., and the International Medical Education Foundation, Inc., Waco, Texas and International Director of Charity Fund Medical Relief have been presented the Presidential Merit Award during a ceremony at the Embassy of Ukraine in Washington, DC on Monday, January 11.

The Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States of America Oleh Shamshur presented the Presidential Merit Award of the III degree to Dr. John Wood in recognition for his significant contributions to the country of Ukraine.

The Presidential Merit Award is presented to outstanding individuals who have gone far beyond the call of duty in their service to Ukraine.

Dr. John Wood has performed religious, humanitarian and medical ministries in Ukraine for the past seventeen years. The award was presented to him for significant contribution into the development of the Ukrainian-American cooperation in the area of healthcare, promoting Ukraine’s international image, and charitable activities.  

Dr. John Wood was one of co-founders of Medical Exchange Program of Charity Fund Medical Relief between Urainian and American Physicians. At this moment Medical Exchange Program for more than 10 years and continues to gain in strength. In the Program have taken part more than 200 Ukrainian physicians of various specialities. The base of exchange is the regular arrival of the American physicians to Ukraine and their work in hospitals with domestic physicians and trainings of Ukrainian physicians in American hospitals. One of results of Medical Exchange Program at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery named after academician Amosov of Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine - introducing of operation Off-pump CAB that has allowed to lower mortality from 11 % to 0.5 %.

Dr. John Wood has done a lot for development of Medical Treatment Abroad Program of Charity Fund Medical Relief. One of the last and most difficult cases - Iryna Shevchenko (girl with a very severe disfiguring scar on her face from Cherkassy region). With his help she underwent several surgeries in USA.

This award as a recognition of achievements of our International Director by Ukrainian President shows the actuality and significance of the Programs performed by Charity Fund Medical Relief.
